VARIATIONS
Automatic transmission fluid differs by brand name, since there is no applicable viscosity or service rating. For example, General Motors vehicles use Dexron® fluid, perhaps with some slight variation such as II E or III. Ford Motor vehicles use Mercon® or Type F fluid. Transmission fluid for older cars is designated as Type A but is rarely used today. It can damage the friction material in newer transmissions.
